Michelle Field was one of the first three women to become MFB firefighters.
During World War II women helped in a firefighting capacity with the ARP (Air Raid Precautions). Described in this photo as ‘girl firefighters’, these women are sifting through the remains of a fire they just attended in 1942. It was 46 years before the first MFB female firefighters graduated.
